I am a storyteller and SEO expert.

I’ve lived all over the country — Charlotte, Los Angeles, Rochester, Charleston, and Brooklyn. During my journey, I’ve worked in public radio, as an entertainment journalist, an operations manager for a white-label digital marketing agency, and a freelance reporter. You can find some of my most recent bylines in GQ, The Daily Beast, Insider, and Mashable.

I studied radio and print journalism at the University of Southern California, and I cut my teeth researching and reporting on homelessness on skid row and throughout Los Angeles. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 2010, just in time to experience the Great Recession up close and personal.

During my 13-year career as a journalist and manager, I have led teams of up to 15 full-time employees and more than 50 freelancers. In addition to my journalism background, I have real-world experience in audience development, business strategy, and team leadership.

Most recently, I have focused on e-commerce and SEO strategy. From 2019-2023, I was the Managing Editor (and eventually Editorial Director) of SPY.com, a men’s lifestyle and e-commerce publication operated by Penske Media Corporation. Under my leadership, the SPY team tripled in size, won industry awards, and saw significant and lasting growth in traffic and revenue.

As an independent contractor, I conduct SEO audits and produce content for a variety of clients. On some days, this means assisting with coverage of tentpole events such as Prime Day, and on others it means performing technical SEO audits. In general, I favor long-term contracts with clients who share my values, but I’m always interested in collaborating with new partners.

Besides my friends, family, and community work, there’s nothing I love more than leading teams of creative professionals. My work as an editorial leader has been extremely fulfilling, and I love working with and mentoring other writers and creators.

When I’m not working, I love to travel with my incredible long-time partner Annie. I also collect first-edition books, science-fiction, and pulp paperbacks from the 1950s and 1960s. One day, I hope to go swimming with manatees and publish a novel.

You can usually find me in Brooklyn, NY or Charleston, SC. I am available for in-person work in these locations or remotely.
